Matching Layers & Tones to Your Features

When it comes to tailoring the layers and color placement for different face shapes and hair textures, there are a few things to keep in mind.

For example, if you have a heart-shaped face, you’ll want to create a more angular look by using choppy layers and a bold, asymmetrical color placement.

On the other hand, if you have a round face, you’ll want to create a more soft, curved look by using longer layers and a more subtle color placement.

As for hair texture, if you have fine or thin hair, you’ll want to use a more delicate layering technique and a lighter hand when it comes to color placement.

This will help to create a look that’s both effortless and polished, without looking too done-up or over-styled.

Take a moment to review the proportions, textures, and timing notes on this page so each step adapts effortlessly to your own routine.

✂️ Face-Shape & Density Quick Match

  • Fine-to-Medium Strands: Keep perimeter weight blunt and add micro-ribbons around the face for visual fullness.
  • Thick or Wavy Hair: Use internal slide-cutting to release weight so waves stack without triangle bulk.
  • Warm vs. Cool Skin Undertones: Pair golden-olive skin with honey, caramel, or espresso glosses; pair cool undertones with champagne, ash, or mocha ribbons.
