2. Customizing for Your Face Shape & Hair Texture

Every head of hair has its own density, cowlicks, and wave pattern.
Here is how I adjust the proportions behind the chair.

Matching Layers & Tones to Your Features
One of the things I love about box braids is how versatile they are.
Depending on your face shape and hair texture, you can adjust the layers, color placement.
And parting to create a look that’s tailored to your individual features.
For example, if you have a round face, you may want to opt for a more angular, asymmetrical look by adding a few loose strands at the front.
On the other hand, if you have a square face, you may want to go for a more rounded, softer look by adding a few more braids at the back.
Take a moment to review the proportions, textures, and timing notes on this page so each step adapts effortlessly to your own routine.
✂️ Face-Shape & Density Quick Match
- Fine-to-Medium Strands: Keep perimeter weight blunt and add micro-ribbons around the face for visual fullness.
- Thick or Wavy Hair: Use internal slide-cutting to release weight so waves stack without triangle bulk.
- Warm vs. Cool Skin Undertones: Pair golden-olive skin with honey, caramel, or espresso glosses; pair cool undertones with champagne, ash, or mocha ribbons.
