Matching Layers & Tones to Your Features
When it comes to tailoring a fishtail braid to your face shape, it’s all about finding the right balance.
For example, if you have a round face, try a more asymmetrical braid to create the illusion of length.
On the other hand, if you have a square face, a more symmetrical braid can help soften your features.
And don’t forget to consider your hair texture – a fishtail braid looks best on fine to medium hair, as it creates a beautiful, effortless texture.
One of my favorite ways to mix up a fishtail braid is to add some volume at the roots. This creates a more dynamic look and adds movement to the braid.
You can also experiment with different braid patterns, such as a Dutch braid or a fishtail braid with a twist.
The key is to have fun and play with different textures and patterns to create a look that’s uniquely yours.
✂️ Face-Shape & Density Quick Match
- Fine-to-Medium Strands: Keep perimeter weight blunt and add micro-ribbons around the face for visual fullness.
- Thick or Wavy Hair: Use internal slide-cutting to release weight so waves stack without triangle bulk.
- Warm vs. Cool Skin Undertones: Pair golden-olive skin with honey, caramel, or espresso glosses; pair cool undertones with champagne, ash, or mocha ribbons.
