Matching Layers & Tones to Your Features

When it comes to braided updos, one of the most important things to consider is the shape of your face.

For example, if you have a round face, you’ll want to create a more angular look by using a center part and placing the braids more towards the sides of your face.

On the other hand, if you have a square face, you’ll want to soften the look by using a side part and placing the braids more towards the center of your face.

Another important factor to consider is your hair texture.

If you have fine hair, you’ll want to use a light-hold hairspray to keep the braids in place without weighing your hair down.

If you have thick hair, you can use a bit more hairspray to keep the braids secure without looking greasy.

✂️ Face-Shape & Density Quick Match

  • Fine-to-Medium Strands: Keep perimeter weight blunt and add micro-ribbons around the face for visual fullness.
  • Thick or Wavy Hair: Use internal slide-cutting to release weight so waves stack without triangle bulk.
  • Warm vs. Cool Skin Undertones: Pair golden-olive skin with honey, caramel, or espresso glosses; pair cool undertones with champagne, ash, or mocha ribbons.
