Matching Layers & Tones to Your Features

When it comes to tailoring the layers of a medium length haircut for a fat face, it’s all about creating a length that skims over the fullness of the face.

For a round face shape, I recommend starting the layers at the jawline and extending them to the shoulders.

This will create a slimming effect and draw attention away from the fullness of the face.

For a square face shape, you can create a more angular look by cutting the hair in a point-cutting style, with layers that start at the chin and extend to the shoulders.

This will create a more defined jawline and draw attention to the features of the face.

Take a moment to review the proportions, textures, and timing notes on this page so each step adapts effortlessly to your own routine.

✂️ Face-Shape & Density Quick Match

  • Fine-to-Medium Strands: Keep perimeter weight blunt and add micro-ribbons around the face for visual fullness.
  • Thick or Wavy Hair: Use internal slide-cutting to release weight so waves stack without triangle bulk.
  • Warm vs. Cool Skin Undertones: Pair golden-olive skin with honey, caramel, or espresso glosses; pair cool undertones with champagne, ash, or mocha ribbons.
