Welcome to Part 2 of my salon guide on Easy Braided Hairstyles for Short Hair.
Every head of hair has its own density, cowlicks, and wave pattern—here is how I adjust the proportions behind the chair.

Matching Layers & Tones to Your Features
Now, let’s talk about how to tailor the layers and color placement for different face shapes and hair textures.
If you have a square face, try a braid that creates a softer, more curved line across your cheekbone.
This will help soften your features and create a more feminine look.
For those with fine hair, try a braid that starts at the crown and works its way down to the nape of the neck.
This will help add volume and texture to your hair.
On the other hand, if you have thick hair, try a braid that starts at the temples and works its way down to the sides of the head.
This will help distribute the weight of the hair more evenly.
✂️ Face-Shape & Density Quick Match
- Fine-to-Medium Strands: Keep perimeter weight blunt and add micro-ribbons around the face for visual fullness.
- Thick or Wavy Hair: Use internal slide-cutting to release weight so waves stack without triangle bulk.
- Warm vs. Cool Skin Undertones: Pair golden-olive skin with honey, caramel, or espresso glosses; pair cool undertones with champagne, ash, or mocha ribbons.
