Welcome to Part 2 of my salon guide on Shoulder Length Hairstyles.
Every head of hair has its own density, cowlicks, and wave pattern.
Here is how I adjust the proportions behind the chair.

Matching Layers & Tones to Your Features
One of the best things about shoulder-length hair is that it can be styled in many different ways.
If you have a round face, you may want to avoid too much layering, as it can add width to your face.
Instead, try a subtle, internal layering technique that creates a more streamlined look.
On the other hand, if you have a square face, you may want to add more layers to create a softer, more curved look.
To achieve this look, try adding a few more layers around the jawline and working your way up.
You can also try a side-swept fringe to add a softer, more feminine touch to your look.
✂️ Face-Shape & Density Quick Match
- Fine-to-Medium Strands: Keep perimeter weight blunt and add micro-ribbons around the face for visual fullness.
- Thick or Wavy Hair: Use internal slide-cutting to release weight so waves stack without triangle bulk.
- Warm vs. Cool Skin Undertones: Pair golden-olive skin with honey, caramel, or espresso glosses; pair cool undertones with champagne, ash, or mocha ribbons.
