2. Customizing for Your Face Shape & Hair Texture
Welcome to Part 2 of my salon guide on The Classic Long Bob: Effortless Elegance for Medium Length Hair.
Every head of hair has its own density, cowlicks, and wave pattern.
Here is how I adjust the proportions behind the chair.

Matching Layers & Tones to Your Features
One of the things I love about the classic long bob is that it can be tailored to suit different face shapes and hair textures.
For example, if you have a round face, you can ask your stylist to cut the hair a bit shorter in the back to create the illusion of length.
On the other hand, if you have a square face, you can ask your stylist to cut the hair a bit longer in the back to soften the angles.
Another great thing about the classic long bob is that it can be styled in a variety of ways to suit different personalities and preferences.
For example, you can add some subtle layers to create a more piecey, undone look.
Or you can go for a sleeker, more polished look by using a round brush and a blow dryer.
✂️ Face-Shape & Density Quick Match
- Fine-to-Medium Strands: Keep perimeter weight blunt and add micro-ribbons around the face for visual fullness.
- Thick or Wavy Hair: Use internal slide-cutting to release weight so waves stack without triangle bulk.
- Warm vs. Cool Skin Undertones: Pair golden-olive skin with honey, caramel, or espresso glosses; pair cool undertones with champagne, ash, or mocha ribbons.
