2. Customizing for Your Face Shape & Hair Texture
Welcome to Part 2 of my salon guide on New Short Hairstyles for 2019.
Every head of hair has its own density, cowlicks, and wave pattern.
Here is how I adjust the proportions behind the chair.

Matching Layers & Tones to Your Features
While the new short hairstyles for 2019 are bold and edgy, they can also be tailored to suit different face shapes and hair textures.
For example, if you have a round face, you can opt for a longer, more asymmetrical bob to balance out your features.
On the other hand, if you have a square face, you can opt for a shorter, more angular pixie cut to soften your features.
Additionally, if you have fine or thin hair, you can opt for a shorter, more textured cut to add volume and depth.
On the other hand, if you have thick or curly hair, you can opt for a longer, more layered cut to add movement and texture.
Take a moment to review the proportions, textures, and timing notes on this page so each step adapts effortlessly to your own routine.
✂️ Face-Shape & Density Quick Match
- Fine-to-Medium Strands: Keep perimeter weight blunt and add micro-ribbons around the face for visual fullness.
- Thick or Wavy Hair: Use internal slide-cutting to release weight so waves stack without triangle bulk.
- Warm vs. Cool Skin Undertones: Pair golden-olive skin with honey, caramel, or espresso glosses; pair cool undertones with champagne, ash, or mocha ribbons.
