2. Customizing for Your Face Shape & Hair Texture
Welcome to Part 2 of my salon guide on Long Flowing Waves & Healthy Hair Care Routine.
Every head of hair has its own density, cowlicks, and wave pattern.
Here is how I adjust the proportions behind the chair.

Matching Layers & Tones to Your Features
When it comes to long hairstyles, there are a few different ways to customize the look to fit your face shape and hair texture.
For example, if you have a round face, you may want to try a shag cut with a lot of layers to create a more angular look.
If you have a square face, you may want to try a shag cut with a more subtle layering to create a softer look.
When it comes to hair texture, the key is to find a balance between movement and texture.
If you have fine hair, you may want to try a shag cut with a lot of layers to create a more textured look.
If you have thick hair, you may want to try a shag cut with a more subtle layering to create a more streamlined look.
✂️ Face-Shape & Density Quick Match
- Fine-to-Medium Strands: Keep perimeter weight blunt and add micro-ribbons around the face for visual fullness.
- Thick or Wavy Hair: Use internal slide-cutting to release weight so waves stack without triangle bulk.
- Warm vs. Cool Skin Undertones: Pair golden-olive skin with honey, caramel, or espresso glosses; pair cool undertones with champagne, ash, or mocha ribbons.
