2. Customizing for Your Face Shape & Hair Texture
Welcome to Part 2 of my salon guide on Luscious Layers for Oval, Heart & Square Faces.
Every head of hair has its own density, cowlicks, and wave pattern.
Here is how I adjust the proportions behind the chair.

Matching Layers & Tones to Your Features
One of the best things about this hairstyle is that it can be tailored to fit any face shape or hair texture.
For example, if you have a round face, I recommend keeping the layers shorter and more subtle to avoid adding volume to the face.
On the other hand, if you have a square face, I like to add more layers and texture to soften the angles and create a more feminine look.
As for hair texture, I always say that fine-to-thick hair looks best with a cut that’s not too blunt or choppy.
By using a point-cut technique and internal layers, we create a look that’s both stylish and easy to maintain.
And don’t forget to add a root smudge every 8 weeks to keep the color looking fresh and vibrant!
✂️ Face-Shape & Density Quick Match
- Fine-to-Medium Strands: Keep perimeter weight blunt and add micro-ribbons around the face for visual fullness.
- Thick or Wavy Hair: Use internal slide-cutting to release weight so waves stack without triangle bulk.
- Warm vs. Cool Skin Undertones: Pair golden-olive skin with honey, caramel, or espresso glosses; pair cool undertones with champagne, ash, or mocha ribbons.
