2. Customizing for Your Face Shape & Hair Texture
Welcome to Part 2 of my salon guide on Wedding Day Balayage.
Every head of hair has its own density, cowlicks, and wave pattern—here is how I adjust the proportions behind the chair.

Matching Layers & Tones to Your Features
For those with heart-shaped faces, I recommend adding more volume at the top to balance out the width of the forehead.
This can be achieved with a slight point-cut layer cut and a bit more texture at the top.
For those with square-shaped faces, I recommend adding soft, subtle layers to create a softer, more rounded silhouette.
This can be achieved with a round-brush blowout and a bit more volume at the top.
For those with fine-to-thick hair, I recommend using a light, honey-toned color at the roots and gradually blending it into the ends.
This will create a seamless, sun-kissed look that adds depth and dimension to any hairstyle.
For those with thicker hair, I recommend using a bit more texture and volume at the top to create a more dynamic, piecey look.
✂️ Face-Shape & Density Quick Match
- Fine-to-Medium Strands: Keep perimeter weight blunt and add micro-ribbons around the face for visual fullness.
- Thick or Wavy Hair: Use internal slide-cutting to release weight so waves stack without triangle bulk.
- Warm vs. Cool Skin Undertones: Pair golden-olive skin with honey, caramel, or espresso glosses; pair cool undertones with champagne, ash, or mocha ribbons.
