Matching Layers & Tones to Your Features
When it comes to pixie cuts, one of the most common face shapes I work with is the oval face. For this shape, I recommend cutting the layers at an angle to create a more dynamic look.
A subtle, piecey texture will add visual interest and make the face look longer and more angular.
If you have a heart-shaped face, you’ll want to focus on balancing out the width of your forehead with strategically placed layers.
A square face shape, on the other hand, can pull off a more angular, choppy texture to create the illusion of softer features.
As for hair texture, I find that fine-to-thick hair types can pull off a pixie cut with ease.
For a 1B to 3B texture, I recommend using a round brush while blow-drying to add volume and smooth out any flyaways.
If you have a thicker texture, you can use a texturizing spray to add grit and definition to your style.
✂️ Face-Shape & Density Quick Match
- Fine-to-Medium Strands: Keep perimeter weight blunt and add micro-ribbons around the face for visual fullness.
- Thick or Wavy Hair: Use internal slide-cutting to release weight so waves stack without triangle bulk.
- Warm vs. Cool Skin Undertones: Pair golden-olive skin with honey, caramel, or espresso glosses; pair cool undertones with champagne, ash, or mocha ribbons.
