Matching Layers & Tones to Your Features
When it comes to layering and parting, balayage works well with most face shapes and hair textures.
However, if you have a round face, I recommend avoiding too much layering around the jawline, as it can accentuate the width of your face.
Instead, focus on creating a more angular silhouette with choppy layers around the cheekbones.
For square-shaped faces, you can get away with more dramatic layering and parting, as it will help to soften the angular features.
Heart-shaped faces, on the other hand, look great with soft, wispy layers around the jawline.
Which will help to balance out the width of the face.
✂️ Face-Shape & Density Quick Match
- Fine-to-Medium Strands: Keep perimeter weight blunt and add micro-ribbons around the face for visual fullness.
- Thick or Wavy Hair: Use internal slide-cutting to release weight so waves stack without triangle bulk.
- Warm vs. Cool Skin Undertones: Pair golden-olive skin with honey, caramel, or espresso glosses; pair cool undertones with champagne, ash, or mocha ribbons.
